RPh Advice.

Larry Frieders, RPh

Larry Frieders, RPh

Hello,

My name is Larry Frieders and I am a registered pharmacist specializing in compounding and alternative approaches to health. My son Joel and his wife Julie, are expecting twins and I agreed to answer as many of their questions as I could as we all prepare to welcome grandkids 4 & 5 into our expanding family.

Any questions about my pharmacy, The Compounder, can be answered at TheCompounder.com or about me at my own personal website LarryFrieders.com.

All of the questions you post here will be answered as soon as I can get to them, and will be categorized as RPh Advice to show up on the main page with everything else.

Now what can I help you with Joel??

  • DAD! Julie is reading every label for anything she puts into her body since we found out we’re having twins. MSG, HFC & fake sweeteners are at the top of her AVOID LIST.

What information can I pass on to her about the dangers of MSG (monosodiumglutimate) specifically regarding pregnancy?

    Thanks,
    joel

  • Julie is a wise mother. She understands that some potentially toxic substances are found in many foods. While they might have been shown to be safe in small amounts, the fact that “they’re everywhere” dramatically adds to the burdens they can place on our bodies. A little here and a little there adds up. It dosn’t take much for unpleasant side effects to occur.

We need to understand that not everyone has our best interests at heart. Some people who sell food are interested more in their “bottom line” than in the safety of their products. All of us need to be vigilant about what we put into our bodies. This is even more critical for the expectant Mom – she is making health decisions for herself and for her child (children in some cases).

Congratulations on the twins and keep up the good work. MSG is but one of the substances you will want to avoid. I’ve posted a more complete article about MSG elsewhere on this website. I will also be adding information about another two potentially harmful substances. They’re sweet, but they can make you very unhealthy; aspartame, and high fructose corn syrup are in my sights.

  • SWINE FLU!
I know, I know, you’re sick of answering this question, but DAD!
What do I tell Julie and all of the other pregnant women (with twins, singletons and other multiples included) about protecting themselves from SWINE FLU?!

  • I’ve answered to the best of my abilities. See my Top 15 recommendations to avoiding the Swine Flu HERE: http://www.havingtwinsnow.com/rph-advice/swineflu/

  • DAD! What do you know about the drug called: “Bendectin” for treating morning sickness symptoms? Sound like it would work?

  • Once again, I’ve done some research and found what you were asking about.
Check out what I found here: http://www.havingtwinsnow.com/rph-advice/morningsicknessdrugs/

  • Hey Pop! A few of the websites we looked at when Julie was really struggling with morning sickness talked about studies done with Vitamin C. Do you know anything about using Vitamin C as a treatment for morning sickness symptoms?

  • Ask and you shall receive!
You asked me on a week or so ago what I had heard, read or learned about fighting morning sickness symptoms with certain vitamins.
I’ve published the article at our compounding pharmacy’s website. Go check it out @ http://www.thecompounder.com/morningsicknessvitamins.php

  • Another question for you pop:
Julie is allergic to bees, she always has her epi-pen with her, but should she use it since she’s pregnant?

  • Alright Dad,
    Question time again:
Our son is getting over the flu (type A) and is on the mend quite nicely. So now that we’re seeing the light at the end of the tunnel: what are the chances of him getting the flu again this winter?
Our twins arrive in jan/feb and im beginning to think, while annoying, this is a complete blessing in disguise for our family because now we’ve all been exposed to it.
